His care for fellow service members, professionalism, and integrity are just a few of the reasons I became a patient of his at the conclusion of my first tour. He always attentive, actively listens with care, and never makes me feel rushed during our visits.

The man went to medical school for many years to provide the medical expertise in answering your questions and recommending blood work etc... Mr. Thomas, the fact you got charged to answer some questions does not sound in any way form or fashion to be out of the ordinary, Dr. Ampelas is a great doctor. If you don't think he should get paid for his work, then good luck finding a doctor that works for free! I had a good recent experience with Dr. Ampelas on a video call after his physician assistant couldn't seem to get signed on after 45 minutes. Dr. Amplus stepped in and did my visit on behalf of his PA. He addressed all my concerns he called in prescriptions for me and I'm very pleased with a care and attention I received from him. Dr Ampelas is truly exceptional. " I cannot say enough good things about Dr.Ampelas. He's very compassionate and I felt truly listened to and valued as a person, not just a patient. He accurately diagnose my condition and took the time to explain treatment option in detail without out making me feel rushed.His staff was also incredibly supportive and professional.
I saw Dr last Monday (10 days ago) ask for a referral for sleep study. I haven’t heard from anyone. On Monday I Sent message on the BS&W portal asking for status and help. Rec’d a response from Nurse Rhonda on Monday / she stated inadequate info sent by DR ofc. She said she corrected info and someone would contact me. It’s now 5:00 pm on Wednesday - still no contact from BS&W about setting up sleep study.
It's disappointing that I have to leave a 1 star for Dr. Ampelas and it may be more about Baylor Scott and White in general because it covers billing (which, is under his control for patients who visit him). I've seen Dr. Ampelas for a few years and the care has been fine, but I'm pretty easy since I'm pretty healthy with no major issues. This year was no different...I arrived at my annual visit with a few questions in mind (just like other years). I go to my appointment, get prompted by Dr. Ampelas asking me "Do you have any concerns" and I tell him yes, I have two things: 1) my ears are ringing and 2) I feel more fatigued than normal. He says the ear ringing is probably allergies and that the fatigue will be diagnosed with the normal bloodwork to be run (no additional tests). Excellent...no problem. A few months go by and I get a bill for a little over $60 to my surprise because my insurance covers the visit. I call up to the billing department, and they say whoops...we'll send this for review and it will probably get reversed...happens from time to time. No worries...charges come off my bill. Another month or so later, the charges show back up. I call again and, long story short, even if they agree that I shouldn't be charged for asking a doctor a few simple questions, there's nothing they can do to remove them because it would be considered "medical fraud". So my warning is this. If you want a doctor that will charge you for asking basic questions, Dr. Ampelas is your guy. If you are like me and feel it is outrageous to not be able to ask your doctor questions without being charged additional, then you should avoid Dr. Ampelas and probably Baylor Scott and White in general. For reference, the medical code they billed to my insurance is below...so it's not for any additional bloodwork or tests...it is literally for answering questions that require "low level decision making". Office or other outpatient visit with low level of decision making - 99213 (CPT®) Obviously, I'm leaving Dr. Ampelas's care and not selecting anyone from Baylor Scott and White
