A consistent theme among reviews centers around the front desk staff and overall customer service. Multiple patients reported feeling that the front office personnel were unhelpful and unfriendly. I have been going to this practice for so long and I love the health care practitioners (Sarah, Kristen, Dodie especially)--but some of the customer service from other staff has been pretty bad lately. I actually Googled because I thought the practice had been bought out by private equity and maybe that was why things had changed. Turns out, no. The primary issues I have encountered are with one of the front office staff. She has repeatedly been unfriendly and unhelpful. I can go into more specifics if you like--but I did not see a general email and the phone is not a good option. I also had a negative experience with a nurse when we arrived 15 minutes early for an appointment and were waiting almost an hour past the scheduled appointment time. I got basically scolded for leaving the waiting room to ask. I think most people, myself included, can understand that there may be a more urgent situation -- but just talk to us. Keep us posted. I don't think it is really out of line for wanting some indication of status when it's that far past the appointment time. I really want to stay with this practice. I hope this helps somehow.

Honestly I came to this office because the reputation of Dr. Keinarth, and so I could lessen my appointments with my specialists until something concerning comes up. My thyroid has been an issue, and multiple times when another doctor checks it they always tell me to follow up here. Given family history and how often I’ve needed to change strengths you would think my PCP would be doing labs more than once a year. Even worse when the followup happens I never get a refill and have to go back and forth. Most recently a medication that is used for my heart rhythm was out of refills and the pharmacy had to act on my behalf multiple times. Then when they responded “patient needs 6 month appointment can pick up Inderal that was prescribed,” BY MY PSYCHIATRIST. Apparently a yearly physical now actually means biyearly. Couldn’t be bothered to tell ME that I had to hear it from the pharmacy that I had to keep nagging. Inderal isn’t even my maintenance drug, and that kind of response is honestly appalling. Deny the medication and (lemme guess a nurse?) decides to tell me to take something I’m not requesting that they’ve never prescribed. Not even curtsey fill, just “go without the proper medication for your arrhythmia” You’d think with both thyroid and heart issues they would be a bit more concerned but it’s always back and forth. Always have to have the pharmacy more involved and this office never bothers to check in if there is an issue. Edit in response: my thyroid is not stable in the past year alone it has had to be adjusted 3 times, and it’s another office that catches it. So I’m not sure why that’s brought up. I have had issues with communications so bad that the pharmacy has to get in touch. No time has anyone told me I needed a 6 month appointment or I’d have scheduled one as I walk out the office. It’s appalling that someone who has an arrhythmia and history of clots was told to take something that was sent in by another provider by mistake. That you didn’t even touch on the danger of that, and how inappropriate it is to tell someone that. Not even to their face either. Hiding behind other healthcare providers. If that’s just 1 of the ways you talk about your patients I can only imagine. Your thyroid can also affect your heart so the need for these medications aren’t something to be messed with. Communication with the patient would do a lot of good. I have called, but somehow your phone lines are down on Fridays even though the site says you’re open. The fact I have to get the pharmacy to go back and forth and your office cannot bother reaching out about a clear problem and giving this type of response is quite ridiculous. Your response is lacking any responsibility here, and considering you sent a fax telling someone to take the wrong drug (one you’ve never prescribed, was this a nurse handling this?) seems close to board action.

The billing/accounting department is incompetent as well as unresponsive or late to respond and does not know how to follow through in order to end a problem that they caused. After 10 months we are still getting bills for a lab draw that was not allowed under Medicare and thus not allowed on our supplement and the draw was not warranted, nor was the patient informed of such which is against state law. That draw was off the allowed timing schedule and unnecessary. Multiple attempts at communication without resopnse and over 7 communications with CPL and several people at the medical office yet still the problem persists with ominous biling notices from CPL. Ludicrous at this point as well as downright scary. What if someone less with it had to deal with this? It would be borderline abusive. The medical care is passable, depends on who you see. If you have a healthcare background, you do not see these people. The front staff is not pleasant either. Competency in the back, from physcians to PA's to Medical Asst's, is visit & provider dependent. I'm not big on the corporate takeover of vet and human healthcare nor am I unaware of its work-around price fixing but for healthcare, I guess their competency is better than small homespun inefficency. Update: the practice mgr responded to a negative review within 35 min. Let's see if she can clear up this accounting and billing fiasco in less than another 10 months. I will report back to google.

I went to this doctor (It was my regular doctor at the time) office in the middle of COVID with a terrible asthma/ bronchitis. I waited in the waiting room for at least 35 minutes not able to breathe well & heaving for air. When I got into the examining room and asked for a breathing treatment All they had was the same inhaler that I had at home. They had nothing to help me. The receptionist was cold and never made eye contact. Every time I've been at this doctor's office the receptionists never smile or make you feel welcome. They sent me out of there to take myself somewhere else for emergency care. I was unable to breathe, I was panicking, and they did not help. I will never go back to this place. I never felt anybody there was warm or friendly (except Dr K.! )😔 I waited a long time to share this review but I feel it is important to share. Huge lack of professionalism at this place. That same week-- In the middle of the night I called their answering service and the on call physician was so rude and told me that she was trying to sleep when I called! I couldn't believe it. She didn't call me back till 10:00 the next morning and then finally offered to prescribe something stronger for the asthma. She made me feel guilty for calling, was cold, and rude. I actually thought I would die in the shower unable to breathe. Just a terrible experience overall with the whole office and on call system. I ended up at an emergency room at a hospital and that was not a much better experience either unfortunately. So thankful that I do not live in Austin anymore and have a wonderful doctor in a different town.

I’ve been a loyal patient at this doctor’s office for years, largely due to the excellent care provided by the physician assistants (PAs). Appointments are prompt, and the PAs handle nearly everything a doctor can, often with great skill and attention. What stood out most was their strong commitment to my privacy during the COVID period, which kept me coming back. However, my recent experience with my wife’s visit in March 2025 left me frustrated. I’d convinced her to see a PA here, but upon arrival, she was immediately asked to wear a thin paper mask. We’re well aware of statements from Dr. Anthony Fauci, former Chief Medical Advisor, who indicated paper masks do little to stop viral transmission, and the current U.S. Health Secretary has expressed similar skepticism about their effectiveness. My wife calmly declined, offering instead to social distance or wait in a separate room. That wasn’t enough for the non-medical administrative staff, none of whom appear to care much about their own personal health. Her request was escalated—first to one administrator, then another, and finally a third, all insisting she mask up. Eventually, she was taken to the PA’s room, where it wasn’t an issue. Seeking clarity, I called Krystal, the office administrator, who brushed it off as 'policy' but couldn’t provide a copy when I asked. She said she’d follow up but never did. I emailed her the next day—no response. I called again; she was out to lunch at 1:30 and promised a callback that never came. By 4:30, I reached Dr. Alberda himself. He dismissed Fauci’s and the Health Secretary’s views, claiming their mask policy ‘evolves’ but admitting it’s unwritten. He conceded it might need revision and that patients—especially women in the waiting room—shouldn’t feel harassed or uncomfortable over a mandate with questionable science behind it. The PAs remain top-notch, but this outdated, poorly enforced mask hassle has me rethinking our loyalty. Clear communication and respect for patient choice should match the quality of care.
